This week (in our pictures), we worked with popcorn and writing down describing words for the popcorn (adjectives). It was a good lesson to work with adjectives for both the third graders and the first graders.
Our class is paired up with Ms. Maguire's class again for Reading Buddies. Each week, we meet and work on literacy skills that match up with specific holidays or themes. The students LOVE to see their reading buddy each week! This week (in our pictures), we worked with popcorn and writing down describing words for the popcorn (adjectives). It was a good lesson to work with adjectives for both the third graders and the first graders.

Room 117 was invited to participate in the Bridgeview October Pumpkin Fest 2015's poster contest. We all talked about how we wanted to decorate the poster, and each child was a part of the design. It turned out really cute, and they were really excited to see their faces on the poster! Great job, Room 117!
First graders: Did you have a FUN and EXCITING first day of school today? I know that I did! Phew, I am exhausted! :) Parents, I hope that your child told you all about our day together today! We read a few books about school and first grade, we colored a first day of first grade picture (using color words), we started our very cute memory book about our first day of school, we had Art class, lunch, recess, and we played a few games! WOW, that is a lot! Oh, and we also talked about class and school rules and why certain rules are important!
Attached are some cute class photos that were taken today, as well as some pictures of our classroom! Can't wait to see you all again tomorrow! Happy Thanksgiving First Graders and Families!
Throughout the month of November, we have been learning about the history of Thanksgiving, pilgrims, Native Americans, and how things compare from the past to the present. This past week, we had our class Thanksgiving feast. In the morning, we made homemade bread, our Native American headbands and, finally, we made homemade butter in jars. After the bread and butter were made, we then sat down to enjoy all of the yummy food: pumpkin pie with whip cream, hot and warm bread with butter, cornbread with butter, and fresh fruit (oranges). The meal was topped off with apple juice! The students were so full by the end! Pictures from the event are posted on this blog, so please check them out! Hope each and every family had a wonderful holiday! All school year, we have been having a lot of fun in Room 117! It is my hope that each child is making many fun-filled memories of their year in first grade. See the pictures below for all of the fun they've been having!
The long awaited announcement of who won the coloring contest is finally here! This fall, first graders were asked to color a picture about fire safety, as October was fire prevention month. Almost everyone in our class participated, and each and everyone did a great job! Out of all of the first grade students, our class had two winning students! Congratulations to all!
Each school day, students are able to earn classroom dollars for good behavior choices, being a friend, helping others, or trying their best on their work. They learn responsibility by having to hold on to their classroom dollars throughout the year. Check out the pictures to see some of the students shopping at our most recent Dr. Seuss store!
