Room 117 was invited to participate in the Bridgeview October Pumpkin Fest 2015's poster contest. We all talked about how we wanted to decorate the poster, and each child was a part of the design. It turned out really cute, and they were really excited to see their faces on the poster! Great job, Room 117!
Room 117 Students were able to get into groups and decorate their pumpkin according to their assigned "fall" book. Each group had to read their book together and discuss how they were going to decorate their pumpkin according to the main character of the story. The students LOVED it, and the pumpkins turned out great!
What an EXCITING week this is: our class field trip and our long awaited Halloween party! The students have been talking about what they were going to be for Halloween for at least a month now! :) They had a very, very fun time at the Halloween party and we would like to say THANK YOU to our room parent volunteers who spent a lot of time planning our party for us!
Also, all of the teachers at Brodnicki school got in to the Halloween spirit and participated in a staff Halloween costume contest! Each grade level or group of teachers came up with a theme to dress up as- everyone looked so good! Congrats to the teachers who dressed up as Dunkin Donuts! They were this year's winners! Children love Science and our students sure proved that with our pumpkin investigation. Ms. Riplinger gathered a few different types of pumpkins: small, large, orange, and green (yes, a green pumpkin!), and the students made predictions about the pumpkins. The formed a hypothesis about how similar and different all of the pumpkins would be. They also predicted if the green pumpkin would look the same or different than the orange pumpkin. We then made Venn diagrams before and after we cut the pumpkins open and discussed the results. Look at the pictures to find out what we learned.
Next, the students were able to get into groups and dig into the pulp of the pumpkin to dig out the seeds! Today was a busy day here at Brodnicki School and Room 117! I bet you all were exhausted when you left school today! First, we drew a picture of our Halloween costume and then wrote about it! Next, we wrapped our room parents up like mummies in our mummy game! Then, we played a great game of freeze dance! Boy, do we have some great dancers in our classroom! Finally, we went down to the gym and got to see all of our friends in all of the classes parade around in their costumes! We are a creative bunch here at Brodnicki School! After the parade, we came back to our classroom and did four different centers: 1) a food craft center, where we made ghost bannanas, pumpkin oranges, monster mouth cookies and drank slime juice!, 2) a pin the leg on the spider game, 3) pumpkin buckets and 4) Halloween BINGO with prizes! We were having so much fun that we didn't even want to change out of our costumes and pack up! See below for all of the fun that we had!
