“You're off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, So... get on your way!”
― Oh, the Places You'll Go! by Dr. Seuss
|Ms. Riplinger's Second Grade Classroom!|
This week, it is a very fun week for our first graders. On Monday, we celebrated and learned all about leap day (see post below). Tuesday, we began our superhero week because we are learning the IR/ ER/ UR sound. We had a fun time making our Superhero masks! Today, we are celebrating our 120th day of first grade AND Dr. Seuss's birthday! We are now 120 days smarter! We made 120 day ties, read Dr. Seuss books, watched the movie "The Lorax", graphed goldfish for Dr. Seuss's book "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish", found a comfy reading spot and read around the room, did exercises in 120 seconds, drew what we thought we would look like at 120 years old, and learned about Dr. Seuss. Wow! That is a lot! Friday, the students are invited to dress as superheroes for their IR/ER/UR spelling test!
I have come across two new fantastic websites that will greatly assist your child in the areas of math and reading. I strongly encourage you to check them out!
We learned in class that the -ar phonics sound makes us sound like pirates! We had a lot of fun learning about this sound in class this week! We made a pirate project, read a book about Mark the Pirate, and played -ar phonics games! We also watched some fun You Tube videos!
See below for some of the work that we did in class, as well as the link for -ar phonics songs.
