We have already made many, many, many memories so far in first grade and we have learned a lot of neat things! We have learned all of our short vowel sounds, many spelling patterns, how to make basic addition sentences, and how to use our sounds to form words and make a sentence! We have learned about pumpkins, how to be a good citizen, how not to be a bully, and more! We are also starting to learn about the different animal families in preparation for our upcoming zoo field trip!
Don't forget to have your child write Ms. Riplinger back in their student-teacher journal! It is so fun to read about everyone! Also, please remember that your zoo field trip permission form and money are due by October 18!
Ms. Riplinger will discuss your student's academic progress more at our Parent- Teacher conferences on October 24 and 25, but by the end of first grade, your child should be able to:
* Write a basic sentence using brave spelling.
*Reading at a level D or higher.
*Know the first 67 sight words from the first quarter.
* Memorize and identify the 0-5 addition facts within two minutes (soon to be 1 minute).
*Know what it means to be a friend.
At the conference, Ms. Riplinger will tell you how your child is meeting the above first quarter goals. Please be on the look out for a reminder of your assigned conference time in your child's take home folder within the next few days.
