This year, Room 117 is pairing with Ms. Maguire's 3rd grade class for reading buddies. The kids were so very excited to meet their buddy for the first time. Today, the first and third graders interviewed each other, and tried to get to know each other. Fun was had by all!
Well, we have made it through a week of first grade! We now know our classmates, are making new friends, finished our first project, shared our summer stories, are learning how to write words, and are learning different ways to write numbers! We also watched a Scholastic News video online (that you can watch at home) and discussed what it means to be a good citizen: patience, respect, being cooperative, responsible, and caring. (For the video, go to www.scholasticnews.com/sn1 and enter the password "brodnicki117").
On Friday, August 29, we got together with all of the other first grade classes at our school. We celebrated the end to our first week with popsicles and recess! It was a big surprise and we had a fun time! We can't wait for week 2 to begin! We had a wonderful first day of first grade! So far, we have had a lot of fun and have enjoyed seeing our friends again! Click on the pictures below to see all of the fun that we've had!
Welcome again, first grade students and parents! We will have a great year together! Listed below is our special class schedule for this school year.
A few reminders:
Please let me know if you ever have questions or concerns! Looking forward to the first day of school! Ms. Riplinger 2014-2015 Special Class Schedule Monday: Music (Loeffler) Tuesday: PE (La Rocque) Wednesday: Art (O' Hanley) Thursday: PE (LaRocque) Friday: Music (Loeffler) Daily Activities: Lunch: 12:00-12:30pm Recess: 1:40pm-2:00pm *** Computer lab and library days will be announced once the schedule is finalized. The weeks leading up to Thanksgiving have been extremely exciting! We have read many books about Thanksgiving, learned about Pilgrim children of the past and compared them to our lives today, wrote stories about pilgrims and Thanksgiving, and created many Thanksgiving projects! We also created a turkey that was disguised as many things, such as: a superhero, Santa, a dancer, Grandpa, and more (so he didn't become Thanksgiving dinner!) :)
On Tuesday, November 26, 2013, with our Native American feather hats on top of our heads, we had a classroom Thanksgiving feast! It was SO FUN! We could smell the bread baking in our room all morning! After lunch, we made homemade butter, sang a few holiday songs, tasted some pumpkin pie and cornbread, and enjoyed homemade bread with our butter! We even invited, Ms. Krejci, our assistant principal to make butter with us and enjoy our feast! It was like the "Best Day Ever!". See pictures below to see all of the fun we had! Today, Ms. Riplinger's class and all of the other first grade classes were able to attend the zoo! We have been busy learning about all of the different animal families and their animal coverings this fall and were so excited to finally be able to see all the different kinds of animals! The students couldn't contain their excitement and they were shouting about everything they saw through the day! See all of the pictures below from our very exciting day!
